Latinas' Reproductive Health and Justice Community Forum, Co-Hosted with Assembly Member Mary Salas
January 26, 2007 - San Diego, CA
CLRJ, in collaboration with Latino Issues Forum (LIF), is honored to co-host a community forum with Assembly Member Mary Salas addressing key issues related to Latinas' Reproductive Health and Justice. The forum will include community-based perspectives as well as a briefing on recent policy developments. California Sexuality Education Roundtable

CLRJ proudly co-sponsored the California Sexuality Education Roundtable with the ACLU of Northern California (ACLU-NC) and Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California (PPAC) on Wednesday, January 9th, in Los Angeles. Advocates and community leaders from across the state of California had the opportunity to discuss recent policy developments, local sexuality education campaigns and culturally-based strategies to promote comprehensive sexuality education. CLRJ Hosts Comprehensive Sex Ed Advocacy Training for Youth Organizers
December 15, 2007 - Los Angeles, CA
CLRJ held a Comprehensive Sexuality Education Advocacy Training with dynamic youth organizers representing a range of grass roots organizations in Southern California. This interactive training addressed the need for promoting quality sexual health programs for youth in communities of color; California's policies that support comprehensive sexuality education; and explored how to take action to promote comprehensive sex ed in local communities. Co-sponsors included Californians for Justice, Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA), Homeboy Industries, Inner City Struggle, Khmer Girls in Action, MALDEF, REACH-LA and So Cal 4 Youth. CLRJ extends special thanks to its allies whose active engagement in the training made it a great success!
CLRJ and Family Violence Prevention Fund Co-Host Latina Roundtable on Reproductive Justice and Violence Against Women
December 13, 2007 - Los Angeles, CA
CLRJ collaborated with the Family Violence Prevention Fund (FVPF) to Co-Host "Building Bridges, Affirming Our Strength: Exploring the Intersections Between Reproductive Justice and Violence Against Women Among Latinas." This roundtable discussion among key allies and leaders in the Latina community explored the shared work and values within our respective movements while identifying opportunities for collaboration. CLRJ thanks the FVPF and all of the Roundtable participants for an inspiring dialogue, and looks forward to continuing to build bridges with its allies in the violence prevention movement.
CLRJ Brings Reproductive Justice Perspective to HIV Youth Conference
December 7, 2007 - Compton, CA
CLRJ was invited to bring the Reproductive Justice perspective to the HIV Youth Conference, "Providers Addressing Young Women's Health Disparities," sponsored by the HIV Youth Coalition of Los Angeles County (HYCLAC). CLRJ staff served as facilitators of working group discussions and an all-conference "call to action" panel during this first ever action planning conference focusing on young women (ages 12-24). CLRJ congratulates REACH-LA and the other HIV coalition partners for a successful dialogue and call to action!
CLRJ Facilitates Reproductive Justice Workshop at Statewide Promotoras Conference: "La Salud Es Un Derecho, No Un Privilegio," Conferencia Estatal de Visión y Compromiso, Red de Promotoras y Trabajadores Comunitarios

CLRJ developed and facilitated a Spanish-language workshop entitled "Latinas Tomando Acción Para Promover la Justicia Reproductiva" at the annual Promotoras' Statewide Conference. This interactive workshop was specifically tailored for the Promotoras (community-based health educator) audience to address the Reproductive Justice (RJ) framework. Participants discussed how the RJ framework relates to their current work and explored the social, political and economic factors that impact Latinas' reproductive justice. CLRJ thanks Visión y Compromiso for the opportunity to dialogue with Promotoras and for hosting another successful conference.
CLRJ Brings the Latina Reproductive Justice Lens to NOW "Women of Color & Allies Summit"

CLRJ joined campus and women's rights activists to conduct a workshop on Latinas and Reproductive Justice at the National Organization for Women's (NOW) "Women of Color & Allies Summit." Workshop participants explored how to apply a Reproductive Justice lens to promote the rights of women of color, their families and their communities. The workshop also addressed how to create reproductive justice policy change that engages women and youth in our communities. CLRJ congratulates NOW for hosting this conference and engaging women of color activists!
CLRJ Receives 2007 "Sisters of Fire" Award!

CLRJ is truly honored to accept the "Sisters of Fire" Award from the Women of Color Resource Center (WCRC) in recognition of CLRJ's "dedication to social justice and women's rights." CLRJ received the award during the WCRC's 9th annual "Sisters of Fire" event celebrating the achievements of women of color activists, scholars and artists. CLRJ was privileged to share this award with the other 2007 honorees: California Assembly Member Karen Bass, poet Ishle Park, vocalist Linda Tillery, and the Service Women's Action Network (SWAN). CLRJ sincerely thanks WCRC for advancing the social justice and human rights of all women of color and congratulates WCRC for a successful event!
CLRJ Presents Reproductive Justice Policy Agenda to Women's Health Leadership Program

CLRJ shared strategies for promoting a proactive Latinas' Reproductive Justice policy agenda with participants of the Women's Health Leadership (WHL) program. Sponsored by the Center for Collaborative Planning, WHL provides leadership development and capacity-building opportunities for grassroots women leaders from across California. CLRJ congratulates the 2007 WHL participants and wishes them great success with their policy advocacy endeavors.
CLRJ Organizes Reproductive Justice Workshop at 2nd Annual National Latino Congreso
October 8, 2007 - Los Angeles, CA
CLRJ was proud to endorse the 2nd Annual National Latino Congreso and organized a policy workshop entitled "Advancing Latinas' Reproductive Health and Justice." This workshop addressed pressing national, state and local policy issues facing Latinas within a reproductive justice context, including the intersection with immigrants' rights, health access, and developing a tailored policy agenda that speaks to the Latina/o community's values and priorities. Raquel Donoso, Executive Director of the Latino Community Foundation, served as the panel Moderator. The panelists included: Silvia Henriquez, Executive Director of the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health; Destiny Lopez, Executive Director of ACCESS; Rocio Córdoba, CLRJ's Executive Director and Gabriela Valle, CLRJ's Field Director. CLRJ congratulates the Latino Congreso organizers for hosting another successful multi-day conference with Latina/o policymakers, advocates and community leaders nationwide.
CLRJ Brings Reproductive Justice Perspective to The California Wellness Foundation's Women's Health Conference
September 26, 2007 - San Francisco, CA
CLRJ participated actively in The California Wellness Foundation's statewide Women's Health Conference, including serving as speaker, workshop facilitator, and by participating in the conference planning Advisory Committee. CLRJ was honored to serve as Moderator of the Opening Plenary panel addressing "The Implications of Health Care Reform for Women's Health," together with advocates from the Women's Working Group on Universal Health Care and Insure the Uninsured Project. Thereafter, CLRJ conducted a presentation entitled "Latinas Empowered for Action: A New Model to Advance Latinas' Leadership and Advocacy," as part of a Reproductive Health Workshop conducted in collaboration with ACCESS and Latino Issues Forum. CLRJ sincerely thanks The California Wellness Foundation for the opportunity to participate in this important conference with a wide range of women's health advocates representing California's diverse communities.
CLRJ Conducts Comprehensive Sexuality Education Training for Parent and Youth Advocates in the Central Valley

CLRJ, in collaboration with its co-sponsors: Advocacy Coalition of Tulare County for Women and Girls (ACT), Central Valley Alliance for Women, Dolores Huerta Foundation, Fresno Barrios Unidos, American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Northern California and Asian Communities for Reproductive Justice (ACRJ), hosted an interactive Comprehensive Sexuality Education Training for advocates working Latina/o parents and youth. CLRJ applied its Latina/o Sexuality Education Action Kit materials to explore coalition-building and advocacy opportunities among allies in the Central Valley. CLRJ extends its sincere thanks to all of the local co-sponsors for their valuable engagement that made the training a success.
Central Valley Parents, Youth and Community Leaders Speak Out for Comprehensive Sex Ed at Press Briefing
September 13, 2007 - Fresno, CA
CLRJ and a coalition of parents, youth, community leaders and reproductive health advocates spanning the Central Valley joined forces at a press briefing to highlight the critical need for comprehensive sexuality education programs in their communities. This was one of several successful efforts to urge policymakers to support AB 629 - a state bill that was recently signed into law and ensures that state funded sexual health programs are medically accurate, effective, culturally and linguistically appropriate and tailored to meet community needs. CLRJ thanks its allies who participated as speakers and the journalists who attended the event. Radio Bilingüe, one of the news media representatives, followed up this briefing by conducting an extended interview with CLRJ on its news and public affairs program in November.

Latinas Empowered for Action (LEA) Reproductive Justice Leadership Training Project - 2008 Regional Training Series!
February and March 2008 - Inland Valley and Central Coast
CLRJ, in collaboration with Latino Issues Forum (LIF), looks forward to launching its 2008 LEA Reproductive Justice Leadership regional training series in the Inland Valley and Central Coast. The LEA project focuses on empowering the next generation of Latina leaders to promote policies that positively impact Latinas' access to safe, confidential and affordable reproductive health services, while mobilizing our communities to create systemic policy change. CLRJ and LIF trained over 100 emerging Latina leaders from diverse California regions in 2007 concerning reproductive justice principles, while building effective policy advocacy and strategic communications skills and providing networking opportunities. A number of LEA alumni also participated in delegations to reproductive justice conferences and advocacy opportunities, both within California and nationwide. Second Annual Latina Delegation to Reproductive Freedom Day!

For the second year, CLRJ will coordinate and lead a Latina Delegation to Reproductive Freedom Day, a Sacramento-based advocacy day and conference sponsored by the California Coalition for Reproductive Freedom (CCRF). CLRJ is an active member and leader within CCRF, and is proud to bring the Latina community voice to the policymaking process through its annual delegation to Sacramento.
